Program Description

Event Details

We all understand how important placing an ancestor in the correct time period is—but honing in on the very spot they called home also offers a plethora of genealogical riches. Even if your ancestor never owned land or lived in a rural setting, seeking out a map is always a good idea. Kelley Lear, a professional genealogist, will discuss the many types of maps available online (and offline) to enhance your research. As well as pinpointing a location, maps can offer clues about relationships and more. Case studies will demonstrate how maps can lead to even more discoveries in understanding our ancestor’s lives.

Please bring your own laptop if you would like to follow along with the presentation! (We will have some laptops available on a first come, first service basis.)

About the presenter:
Kelley is a professional genealogist specializing in research in her home state of West Virginia, her adopted state of Virginia, the Allegheny Highlands, and central Appalachia. She is available for research, writing, speaking, or assistance with lineage society applications. Kelley holds a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) from the International Institute of Genealogical Studies. She is now a certified genealogist, one of only 240 certified genealogists worldwide!

This program is part of Charleston's Celtic Calling weekend celebration.
